Usage and credits

What a credit is, what uses one, where to see what you have left, and how to stop one person spending the whole allowance.

What credits are

Asking a question costs computing time, and credits are how that is measured. Your plan includes a monthly allowance, every message draws from it, and the Usage tab in Settings shows exactly where you stand.

There is no per-seat charge for asking. Ten people asking one question each and one person asking ten cost the same, which is deliberate: the whole point is that everyone can ask.

What uses credits

  • Every message you send in chat, including follow-ups.
  • Generating a chart, table, map or file, because they come from the same answer.
  • Generating the Schema and Analytics prompts with AI on the Databases tab, which uses a small number.

What does not use credits

  • Sorting, filtering or searching inside a table you already have.
  • Exporting a table you already have to CSV.
  • Opening the dashboard or any saved item.
  • Downloading a file that has already been generated.
  • Refreshing a saved chart, table or map. It re-runs the stored query against your database without asking the model anything.

Why one question costs more than another

A question that touches one small table is cheap. A question that has to look across several large tables, or that asks for a long written analysis, costs more. Length of the answer matters too, so asking for the top ten is cheaper than asking for everything.

The practical consequence is that a well-scoped question is both a better answer and a cheaper one.

What the Usage tab shows

Settings, then Usage. The Owner and Admins see it.

  • AI credits used against your limit for the current billing period.
  • Members used against the seats your plan includes.
  • Storage used against your allowance. This counts the files Belta generated that you saved; an uploaded spreadsheet is not counted against it.
  • Credit usage per member, so you can see where the allowance is going.
  • Your plan name, price and the date the current period ends.

When the allowance resets

Credits reset with your billing period, and both your workspace total and each member's usage go back to zero at the same moment. Unused credits do not roll over.

Capping a member

By default any member can use the whole workspace balance. If that is a problem, cap it.

  1. 1Open Members from the main navigation.
  2. 2Find the person and choose Set Credit Limit. The dialog shows what they have used this month.
  3. 3Enter a monthly number and save. Clear the field to make them Unlimited again.

If you run out

Chat stops until the period rolls over. Everything you have saved stays readable. If it happens regularly, the answer is usually a larger plan rather than a stricter rule, because a team that has stopped asking questions is not saving you anything.
