Getting started
From signing up to your first answer. This takes about ten minutes, and most of it is waiting for a confirmation email.
Create your account
Sign-up starts from a plan, so you know what you are getting before you type anything. Pick one on the pricing page and you land on the register form.
- 1Enter your full name. This is the name your colleagues will see beside your messages and your saved work.
- 2Enter a workspace name. Use your company or team name. Belta uses it when it introduces itself and when it writes the footer of an exported file, so pick the name you would put on a report.
- 3Enter your work email and a password. The password needs at least eight characters with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a digit. No special character is required.
- 4Confirm the password and submit. A six-digit code is sent to the address you gave.
- 5Type the code on the screen that follows. The account is not usable until the address is confirmed, because that address is how we reach you about billing and about invitations.
Start your trial
After confirmation you are taken to checkout for the plan you chose. Every plan opens with a three-day free trial.
- 1Review the plan, the billing cycle and what you are charged today, which is nothing during the trial.
- 2Enter your card details in the payment form. Payments are handled by Paddle as merchant of record, so your card details are given to Paddle and never reach DataBelta.
- 3Confirm. Your workspace is created and you are signed in.
Connect your data
An empty workspace has nothing to answer from, so this is the one step you cannot skip. There are two ways in and both are covered in full later in this guide.
- 1Open Settings and choose the Databases tab.
- 2Choose Connect a database to link a live system, or Upload a spreadsheet to work from an Excel or CSV file.
- 3For a live database, fill in the server, database name, username and password, then press Test connection. The connection cannot be saved until the test passes.
- 4Save. The connection appears in the list and is immediately available in chat.
Ask your first question
- 1Open Chat. If the workspace has more than one connection, pick the one you want at the top of the page.
- 2Ask something you already know the answer to. Something like the number of orders last month is a good first question, because you can check the result against what you expect.
- 3Read the answer, then follow up. You do not need to repeat the context. Asking to break it down by branch continues from what came before.
- 4Open the Widgets menu, choose Chart and pick a type from the submenu, then ask again to see the same answer drawn.
Then invite your team
You are the Owner of the workspace, which means you can invite colleagues, change the plan and manage the connections. Members you invite can ask questions and save their own work without seeing your billing.
How many people you can invite depends on your plan, and the Usage tab shows how many seats you have left.
