Asking questions
Saving and sharing
Keeping the answers worth keeping, deciding who else sees them, and using your dashboard as the view you open every morning.
Saving
Every chart, table, map and file carries a Save button. Pressing it does two things: it puts the item on its own page, and it asks who should be able to see it. Putting it on your dashboard is a separate step, taken afterwards from that page.
The three visibility choices
Chosen at the moment you save, and fixed after that.
| Choice | Who can see it |
|---|---|
| All members | Everyone in the workspace, now and in future |
| Specific members | Only the people you pick from the list |
| Only me | Just you, and the workspace Owner |
Your dashboard
The dashboard is the page you build yourself. It holds the items you have pinned to it, your own and the ones shared with you, so it answers the morning question of how things are going without you asking anything.
To put something there, open Charts, Tables, Maps or Files, find the item and use its Add to dashboard control. After that you can search the dashboard by name, filter by widget type to see only charts or only maps, and drag items to put the ones you care about at the top. A new dashboard stays empty until you pin something, and shows links through to those four pages.
The saved item pages
Charts, Tables, Maps and Files each have their own page in the main navigation, and each has two tabs. The first is your own saved work. The second is what colleagues have shared with the workspace, which is how a team stops rebuilding the same report five times.
Every page has a search box and a filter panel. Charts filter by chart type, files by file type, and the grid can be set to show more or fewer items per row.
Refreshing a saved item
A saved chart, table or map holds its question, not a picture of its answer.
- 1Press the refresh control on the item, on the dashboard or on its page.
- 2The original query runs again against the current data and the item is redrawn.
- 3If the refresh fails, the item shows a Refresh failed badge with the reason. The usual cause is a connection problem or a change to the underlying table.
After you have saved
Visibility is fixed once an item is saved, so choose it deliberately at the moment you press Save. Deleting an item removes it from your dashboard and from everyone it was shared with.
